From Seoul to the North – The Story Behind Fyrheim

Where It Started — From Seoul to the North

There are moments that quietly change the way you see things. Not all at once — but enough to stay with you.

For us, that moment happened far from home, in Seoul.

It wasn’t a single place or a single meal. It was something we kept noticing, again and again. The way people gathered around the table. The way cooking wasn’t separate from eating — it was part of it. Shared. Immediate. Alive.

Food wasn’t brought out and placed in front of you. It unfolded in the middle of the table.

Heat was part of the experience.

Everyone took part.
Everyone adjusted, tried, added something of their own.
Meals lasted longer — not because they had to, but because no one wanted to rush them.

That stayed with us.

Coming back to Northern Europe, the contrast felt clear. Here, we have something just as strong — maybe quieter, but just as meaningful. The idea of the hearth. Of gathering. Of warmth in cooler evenings, in shorter summers, in spaces where time slows down.

But something was missing.

Not the ingredients. Not the skill.
The interaction.

What if cooking didn’t happen before the meal — but became part of it?

That question became the starting point for Fyrheim.

Not to replicate what we saw. But to bring that feeling into a different context. To combine what already exists here — the Northern sense of space, calm, and seasonality — with the energy, movement, and shared cooking traditions we experienced in Asia.

Fire at the center.
People around it.
Food becoming something you create together, not just consume.

This journal is an extension of that idea.

Here, we explore recipes, techniques, and ways to bring shared cooking into your own space — from Korean tabletop grilling to simple setups that work anywhere.

Not as tradition to follow.
But as something to experience.

Because in the end, it’s not just about what you cook.

It’s about how you cook — and who you share it with.
